Canteen helpers needed for 2011
Dear supporters, parents, players and partners,
Part of every successful football club is a great canteen and Coldstream is no different, but to run the canteen we desperately need some volunteers.
I, along with Karen will be running the canteen again in 2011 and with only a week or so before we hit round 1 we just need to secure a few more helpers J
We only have 9 home games to organise (as per the dates below).
If you could volunteer your time for only 1 day or even just a few hours, it would be a huge help.
We also need some quick help first thing in the morning for setup.
This may suit a parent or partner of someone from the under 18’s as you are already there early to watch the game. This early morning help (from around 8.30am – 9.30am) is to make the salad rolls, along with cutting and packing hot dog rolls. If I can get one or two people to commit to that for the season, that would be fantastic.
Kind Regards,
Torrie Hancock

Survey Misses about 200
After wondering why a number of people did not get a survey I was told by Marion at the Shire that the Shire had made a mistake and had forgotten to send out surveys to about 200 people. These will be sent out today!

UNDERSTANDING THE COMMUNITY SURVEY
As mentioned yesterday, a lot of people are confused abut the survey and I will attempt to explain what some of the questions mean.
Questions 1 , 2 & 3 relate to the PRESENT TOWNSHIP.
Questions 4 , 4a & 5 relate to the talk about the expansion of the township OUTSIDE the present township.
Questions 6 , 7 & 8 are general questions about you.
This question relates to the PRESENT TOWNSHIP (The ESTATE).
C97 is a Planning Amendment, that has not yet been passed and is still being discussed.
C97 relates to the whole Shire and not just Coldstream.
Part of C97 suggests that the minimum block size in the ESTATE be 1000 m2.
This would stop any dual occupancies in the ESTATE.
I hope this clarifies question 2 so that you can choose
o YES
o NO
o Don't Know.
This question QU4 relates to the area OUTSIDE the ESTATE.
It is asking if you want COLDSTREAM EXPANDED and become a bigger township in area.
As you may know the COLDSTREAM 2020 group have been pushing for this for some time now.
This survey was a direct outcome from our meeting with the Shire officers including Cr Jeanette McRae.
Question 4a is miss-leading
IT SHOULD SAY>>>>> IF NO, which area(s) etc...
Had I given out this survey, I would have added a map of the area around the ESTATE showing exactly where the BOUNDARY IS AT PRESENT!
I would have then asked you to indicate where you wanted Coldstream to expand by marking the map, provided you answered NO to question 4.
I would have then asked you to indicate where you wanted Coldstream to expand by marking the map, provided you answered NO to question 4.
A map like the one shown below:
NOTE: the blue line with triangles is the present boundary or the ESTATE.
the pink area is Maroondah Hwy
the "greenish" area is the green wedge land (agricultural land).

Coldstream Community Survey
By now, you should have received your survey from Cr Jeanette McRae - Ryrie Ward - Yarra Ranges Council.
I have already had numerous complaints about the questions on this survey calling it confusing and a joke.
Question 2. Mentions C97.
Not many understand or have heard of C97 and those that do do not see C97 as a part of the EXPANSION of Coldstream. C97 relates to the present township and should not be confused with any proposed expansion.
One resident thought this was put in to confuse people and muster a negative response from those who oppose dual occs.
Question 3:
"a greater mix of housing in this area"
people were confused about the area in question, ie the existing township or the proposed expansion as outlined by the COLDSTREAM 2020 group.
Question 4 and 4a
are also confusing. Would you like to see the residential boundary maintained? YES OR NO OR Don't Know
4a should read IF NO not if yes!!!
Comment: At our meeting with the Shire and Jeanette last month we were told by Jeanette that our group would be able to make comment on the survey BEFORE IT WENT OUT.
THIS WAS NOT DONE!

So, what's the planning boss planning for Melbourne?
Farrah Tomazin
March 20, 2011The AGEMatthew Guy says his biggest challenge will be housing affordability.
MATTHEW Guy has a tough task ahead. In opposition, the upper house MP repeatedly declared state planning a mess.
The Brumby government, he said, had brought ''more pain and division to the community through the planning system than any other government in Victorian history''. Councils were being bypassed, transparency was lacking, and the Windsor Hotel scandal eroded the public's faith in the planning system.

“The Police Block”
Written by Marc Pallisco |
Monday, 14 March 2011 00:00 |
THE Police Association has snaffled a reported $2 million from the sale of a 46.5 hectare block of land abutting the outer north-eastern township of Coldstream. The site (pictured, right), which was marketed throughout the summer by agency RT Edgar as “The Police Block”, is currently used for grazing – but is said to have attracted interest from developers, and land bankers, being on the edge of the Urban Growth Boundary. Melbourne’s UGB - a controversial invisible line dividing where builders can and can’t develop – was revised several times by the previous state government, much to the delight of developers who bought land cheap, outside the zone gambling when the government would run out of room to zone as housing, and need them. This Coldstream property, with a street address of 84 Killara Road, is arguably another of those sites. Coldstream is about 38 kilometres from the CBD, near a disused train station and a small shopping centre, The Lodge. More sophisticated amenity including schools and offices are at neighbouring Lilydale. In recent years some groups have been advocating to extend Coldstream’s boundary for the benefit of its small businesses, and so as to have enough people to support a large school. They argue that by comparison, suburbs further from the city than Coldstream, like Pakenham, in the south-east, and Melton in the west, are seeing an abundance of new development, which is improving the quality of services following people to those areas. Andrew Houghton represented The Police Association but declined to comment on any part of the campaign. |

Butcher shop hidden in one of the world's most unappealing shopping centres
7 reasons to visit The Yarra Valley

3 MEAT, MEAT, MEAT!
THE Little Creek Cattle Company is a butcher shop hidden in one of the world's most unappealing shopping centres. Ignore the architectural gloom and rejoice at grass-fed, dry-aged beef from owner Craig Jenkins's Uncle David's farm nearby. Also consider the truly excellent lamb from Killara Rise and some of the best Berkshire pork in the country from McIvor Farm Foods. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the product.
Mon to Fri 7am-6pm, Sat 7am-2pm, shop 13 North Gateway (just off the Maroondah Highway), Coldstream, 9739 0438.
