The Victorian Government is seeking public comment on a move to a fairer and more equitable property-based fire services levy model. These changes were an election promise of the Government and a recommendation of the Bushfire Royal Commission.
All members of the community are invited to attend this meeting and discuss the fire services levy with local MPs and Government staff and advisers

Fire Services Levy

As part of the recommendations from the Bushfire Royal Commission, the State Government has released an options paper on funding fire services through a property based levy system.  Funding for fire services in Victoria is currently collected through a levy on home insurance policies.

Yarra Ranges Council supports a property based levy to fund fire services and we believe this levy should be extended to cover emergency services more broadly.
However, as a State Government provided service for all Victorians, we believe the fire services levy must be set, collected and allocated by the State Government.  The State Government’s State Revenue Office is the most appropriate body to collect the levy.
