Generous helping of Coldstream goodwill

On the first Monday of each month, retired chef and Coldstream resident Sharon Chuck takes over the clubroom kitchen to dish up a three-course meal for residents who might be struggling financially, are looking to socialise or just need to get out and take a break.

And the cost? Just a gold coin donation. "I just wanted to put back into the community in some way," says Mrs Chuck. "It's just magic to see it come together. I'd love to see it take off everywhere else."

UGB CHANGES TIMETABLE

But last week, Mr Guy’s office confirmed that residents’ submissions would not be taken into consideration. Mr Guy asked Manningham, and other councils that sit outside growth areas, to identify anomalies within the urban growth boundary by November 28.

‘The Minister has continued to say this is a council led process. Any concerns residents might have on that regard should be directed to their elected councillors,’’ Mr Guy’s spokesman Nicholas McGowan said.

Council submissions for the Review of Urban Growth Boundary Anomalies Outside Growth Areas will be considered by an independent panel by March next year.

Comment:  I assume this applies to our Shire as well.  Let's hope so!

Mr Guy said the plan would take pressure off inappropriate development in existing suburbs and keep house prices in check.

It also allowed for higher density living in urban and outer urban Melbourne.

"We are already doing the work now about getting some of that infrastructure earlier in place so that our outer urban areas can grow and grow sustainably," he said.

The draft Growth Corridor Plans will be released for comment until December 20.
