The Victorian Government will move the urban growth boundary (UGB) to accommodate Melbourne‘s growing population which will reach five million people faster than originally projected.
Launching the population projections, Victoria in Future 2008 (VIF) and a planning update, Melbourne @ 5 million Premier John Brumby said an additional 600,000 dwellings would be needed over the next 20 years.
“These projections are based on the 2006 Census and predict that from 2006 to 2036 Melbourne will grow by 1.8 million people, and regional Victoria by almost half a million,” Mr Brumby said.

What Coldstream needs is a new development not infill, a new start, all infill will do is jam up the basic services we already have and i cant believe how nieve people are thinking its a good thing to do infill. What you think the bus company is going to give us more services for a few extra houses in the back yards of a few houses? Are any of the people of coldstream going to benifit?NO all its going to do is stuff us all up, more power black outs more burst water mains why the bloody hell push dual occs?Oh thats right to line the pockets of gready developers.Id gladly stand up and push for a stage 3 that was proposed for Coldstream where everyone can get something out of it to enjoy not just jam up the original estate.
Guy, until recently the expansion of the UGB around was "off" the agenda. I have been pushing for it for over 12 years but to no avail. Yes, I agree with you, it should happen and soon.
The new council have at least let discussion on the expansion of the UGB begin!
Keep an ear on this topic Guy!
As I have mentioned several times now, I believe that the Post Office should be considered and the centre of Coldstream and we should expand the UGB from there in a radius.
