HAVE YOUR SAY: Residents say develop green wedge land - Local News - News - Moorabbin Leader

KINGSTON residents living on green wedge-zoned land are calling on the council to extend its boundaries to allow development.
As reported in the Moorabbin Leader (“Green land rezoning on table”, August 3), Planning Minister Matthew Guy is writing to councils giving them the chance to extend boundaries into protected green wedge land to meet an increasing demand for housing.

Len Le Page, 83, is a market gardener on Centre Dandenong Rd in Cheltenham. He said residents in the zone were desperate for the boundaries to be moved.
“We want it to be rezoned, it’s as simple as that,” Mr Le Page said. He said about 25 landowners on a total of about 28 hectares were able to use their properties for only agriculture and market gardens, but it was becoming unviable.
“We can’t work it, and we can’t afford to keep it,” he said.
“No one wants to buy it because it’s green wedge.”
Kingston Council general manager of environmental sustainability Rachel Hornsby said the council was considering its response to Mr Guy.
