A FALLEN tree that has “adorned” Coldstream’s verge for more than a month was finally removed last week.

The tree has lain on the side of the busy Maroondah Highway since it toppled in early July, despite it being brought to the attention of authorities. Following Leader inquiries last week VicRoads revealed it would remove the tree.
VicRoads regional director Patricia Liew said they were aware of community concern regarding the fallen tree.

“This tree was previously moved away from the roadside and trimmed to minimise the immediate hazard,” she said. “VicRoads has arranged for the rest of the tree to be removed. We encourage people to notify VicRoads of any road hazards.”

Concerned Coldstream resident Mario Galteri, who of Coldstream Timber and Hardware, located opposite the fallen tree, said authorities had been slow to act in removing the tree, with VicRoads failing to reply when he brought it to their attention last month.

“The fallen tree was dangerous - sitting only centimetres from the edge of the road,” Mr Galteri told Leader. “It was also ugly. The Yarra Ranges prides itself on being a tourist area and this tree was on the main road to Healesville, Yarra Glen and Lilydale.”
