Changes to Fire Services Levy ~ Yarra Ranges Update:
"The effects of the 2009 bushfires continue to be far reaching with the Royal Commission’s findings changing the way we look at fire management.
From July 1, 2013, the State Government will no longer collect its fire services levy though home insurance premiums. Instead, the Government has developed a property-based levy."

There still seems to be an unholy alliance between the Planning Department and the insurance companies by requiring Fire Management reports to be prepared before permitting house extensions in the Yarra Ranges Sire. Why should it be the responsibility of the Councils to reduce the risk of fire to people when many people enjoy the greenery offered in fire prone areas. All of Victoria is fire prone and the insurance companies still insure properties in the city centres where houses are close to petrol stations and high density houses surrounded by bushy scrubs and trees. Its all an excuse for the greenies to keep people from enjoying good housing in leafy areas in the Yarra Ranges imo.
just dropped into Ted Baillieu's office a few minutes ago to ask when the new planning scheme was going to get passed into law and secretary at first did not seem to know about it...then suggested I call Matthew Guy, the council and the Planning Dept.... and I said I already had and none of them seem to know when.... then asked for my name as I got worked up she not knowing anything...she said waiting for the next parliament sitting days....
I left by saying the govt was hopeless...just hopeless...
if you have millions to build multi storey apartment towers not a problem, but anyone wanting a car port or garage built needs to go to hell first to get anything approved.
NOT HAPPY....
