Councillor Fiona McAllister said this had affected the ability of Rochford to attract events, which in turn had impacted on visitation numbers to the area and the local economy.

"We can't ignore the fact that tourism is a significant contributor to the culture, the vibrancy and the local economy," Cr McAllister said.

The council received more than 90 submissions supporting the application and only two objections.
