Cr Terry Avery Supports Dual Occs in Coldstream A RESPONSE

Wouldn't it be nice if proper planning had been made to allow for diversity in Coldstream. Leaving the section west of the highway open for residential development, and commercial development on the Highway, for instance. Now that would have been SENSIBLE !!!

Councillor Avery was on the Shire Council when that little mess of the Green Wedge was done by the State Government. I wonder if he had any input and what it may have been to that topic?

COMMENT:
We finally agree!
When the UGB was being discussed I suggested things like that but to no avail.
Since then Coldstream HAS changed.  In my opinion the POST OFFICE should now be considered as the centre of an expanding Coldstream not the Gateway defacto shopping strip.

Remember too.... the more a push is made to make Coldstream a 'suburb' rather than a rural township, our school and pre-school get less and less funding.

Yet another way the 'cramming' of Coldstream with more housing in an already complete estate will adversely affect our community!

Hey Mario
I remember us disagreeing on the topic a few years back when I was saying rather than fight to crowd our little estate, the State Government should have allowed the space on the west of Maroondah Highway. LOL. I always knew we would never agree on this topic.

The tragedy of it all is lack of thought in planning. With Justin Madden as Planning Minister, I doubt this error will be remedied.

He seems intent on outer suburbs with housing commission high rise, whether they suit the area or adversely affect the existing community or not.

I have always said that expanding the UGB would have been MUCH better. The Shire would not support such action so, as they say, the rest is now history.
