TO THE world, Dame Nellie Melba was an opera diva, but to her only
grandchild, Pamela Vestey, she was her loving, playful granny.
Lady Vestey, who died on Friday, aged 92, was one of the last ''living links'' to Melba.
She was not a city socialite or an overt philanthropist. ''She was very
much a country woman, and very devoted to local affairs and people in
Lilydale.'' A private Yarra Valley funeral will be held on Friday for
Lady Vestey, a great-grandmother of five.
