Yarra Valley residents have responded enthusiastically to a month of free green waste disposal but Yarra Ranges Shire refuses to extend the free period.
During the first weekend, the shire’s landfills reported an increase of up to 400 per cent on the previous weekend, with 160 tonnes dumped in just two days.
However, at last Tuesday’s council meeting, the Dandenong Ranges Community Bushfire Group again requested extra green waste collection services for residents wanting to remove fire fuel after the month of free tipping ends.
