VFF says tax review a mixed bag for farmers

FIRE SERVICE LEVY

“The Fire Service Levy has long been criticised by farmers, and countless government and independent inquiries and reviews, as an inequitable burden on rural businesses and the wider Victorian community. The review has put the final nail in the coffin of the Levy, slamming it, calling for its abolition and acknowledging the sensible link between tax and under-insurance.”

“The Victorian Government should drop the pretence of their policy review, take the advice of Australia’s economist-in-chief, and abolish this unfair tax immediately.”

"Farmers welcome the statement within the review that ‘there is no place for stamp duty in a modern Australian tax system’, however, we are concerned with the emphasis on land tax as a possible alternative."
