Margaret Blair, candidate for Ryrie Ward

Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself.  I am one of the large field of candidates for Ryrie Ward at these council elections.   It would be a great privilege to represent you, the people of Coldstream, as your councillor and I look forward to learning a lot more about you and your community’s needs.  I am committed to providing a voice in council for all people, including those who often feel left out.  As a former farmer and small business owner I will also effectively represent those involved in business.  Coldstream is a beautiful location in a great area to live. If elected, I will represent you to ensure sensitive development in this precious place while protecting its special qualities for our children and grandchildren.

Its been a long time since i was involved as a candidate in elections, so dont know anything about the modern rules of the Electoral Commission, however what is so wrong with us finding out about the candidates job application story on this forum before we vote. What has been the serious criminal offence committed by these aspiring candidates using social media? Will Anon please explain.

Why dont you move to Coldstream

I spend most of my "awake" hours in Coldstream.
I do my part for Coldstream without living here.
As a property owner in Coldstream I do have a vote.
I do not have to live here to care about Coldstream.

Why don't you add your name, Anon?

I'm sure a lot more people might be living in Coldstream if there where more housing options, if there was a taxi service easily available, if there were more shop, office and apartment sites permitted and if more enthusiastic entrepeneurs could be attracted to set up businesses which attracted more tourists and regular visiting customers to the yarra valley region.

Coldstream and Yarra Glen areas are in a very good geographic location to attract more of the 5 million in Metro Melb and tourism stats suggest that 80% of 1 million day trippers come to the Yarra Ranges, most probably to the Healesville Santuary.

The major attractions are the Coldstream Brewery, Go Wild Ballooning and the Gateway Hydroponics are standouts, but there is room for more in this strategic location.

One way of achieving this result is for everyone in Coldstream [businesses and residents]to have an invitation day and invite all your email friends and customers to a big BBQ party once a year...tell them whats good about Coldstream and the great potentials and the local real estate agents could do more than just wait for inquiries. Promotions are so easy these days using social and email media every time you email a customer or a social friend imo. Lets all do our part to grow the pie and put our area on the travel map.

I'd like to see the local Tourism groups to merge and use the admin savings to advertise on TV which can have the real pulling power we need.

I'll be making the same suggestions to the Yarra Glen Chamber of Commerce...lets compete on who can implement these ideas first.

Love that comment Gill.

Just what I am looking for in a candidate. Shame you are not standing.

LOL, I did try in 1997 when Mary Mooney, Malcolm Calder stood too and Di Moore won then. My ideas were ahead of those times but the voters rejected my views.

These days my thinking is we really cant rely on the Socialistic Shire Council group or Shire staff for much help when all they can come up with is to increase the number of poor people living in Coldstream. Its the property owners themselves who have to lobby the State Government which has the real power but not the political will to change the Planning Schemes to foster enterprise and progress.

In my opinion many property and business owners [excluding your group]are too lazy and expect it will just happen through silent diplomacy. Result ...Nothing happens.

Call me disenchanted, but the way I see politics these days we have two and a half corporate organizations plus some one man businesses known as Labor, Liberals, The Greens and Independents vying to control those businesses who create wealth and jobs to make sure they can be milked to provide for their wider audience of voters who include those on welfare.

We have modern Labor who have seen the light and want to milk more out of the mining sector when they know our industrial businesses are in decline...pretending to ignore people like Gina Reinhardt who is trying to warn the treasurer of the facts of business. The Labor Party know full well that they will get more votes and support by giving out gifts at every opportunity...gifts on loan by printing more money and borrowing more money or by trying the Carbon Tax scam when all other avenues of cash sources have run out, because they know that voters soon forget and blame the Utility companies when they get cut off. Giving more gifts in desperation should help them in the polls eventually and anyway the haves will have to pay in the future anyway whether under their govt or the Liberals.

Then we have the Liberals who have always been better debt managers but again it means those with incomes or assets end up paying for the largesse of the previous Labor Govts. ...they too are milking those who create and employ for profit but have to sell their business model so that their voter supporters and the swinging voter believe they are going to be better off under their autocratic but still socialistic style of government.

The Greens are total socialists and have no qualms at destroying the Tasmanian timber & mining industry jobs to keep Tasmanian in its pristine condition before white man set foot on the land. In any case the rest of the taxpayers in Australia will pay for welfare on their unemployed workers...they don’t care. Can’t you see the glee in their eyes knowing that Gunns has been put into administration? Then we have the Independents who like the Greens are hoping to blackmail the larger party’s to gain a benefit or too...stopping the live trade of animals and ruining farmer’s livelihoods? How great are they? A super tax on the miners will pay for it all they think. In my view we have a bunch of cunning idiots running our LUCKY country today.

Sure it’s not as simple as I describe it, but I talk to many disenchanted Liberal members who have been trying to get their party when in govt to change the socialistic policies of the Hamer Govt policy on GWZ land for 40 years now...without any success. They tinker on the edges but don’t have the courage or the real belief in true land rights for the land owners.

Then we have the federal capital gains taxes which stifle State revenues with less people selling or turning over long held landholdings because of the CGT, so the states could be earning 6% on each purchase turnover sale and not have to rely on federal grants. Yet we still have people who consider all inflationary profits should be taxed or worry that some people will get away with not paying taxes. I say who cares..if someone has owned land for 5 years surely there should be no gains tax [and they cant take it with them]and in the case of Coldstream who cares if someones pays no tax on a gain when more people could be housed in the area, the state would gain more in land taxes, turnover taxes, gst on building products, more jobs in the area... more turnover more tax. Its a win win for everyone and more tax collections than the tax payable on a capital gains tax. Lowering the taxing price has the effect of increasing the whole take.... just like Coles increased profits by increasing turnover on lower prices.

Shamme Shame Shame on you for adding the authorisation to Margaret Blair as if it was originally there. Thankfully the Victorian Electrol Commission has the original. Your site is not creditable. I'm not supprised other candidates avoid it like the plague.

I am not forcing anyone to be part of this site. But those that do, at least, give their real name.

I invited all candidates to add to this site. As you can see some were green and did not know all the rules of VEC, but in my opinion, no harm has been done.

I have the original emails from candidates that asked me to add their statement to this blog and change it when they were aware of the VEC rules.

I take pride in my blog and would hope that you stop being anon and identify yourself.

Page views are growing from between 2600 to 3400 per month, so Annon is wrong to say that the silent majority are avoiding this blog. I'd say some candidates are too cunning to use every opportunity to tell people what they are really offering and hoping they can sneak in and win and then surprise all us voters with their anti progress policies when in council.

On a funnier note..saw this post in reply to anti meat eating group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has its sights set on young people, hoping the next generation will quit eating meat. PETA in Cleveland USA wanting to advertise in schools..

Yesterday, in America, 8.9 million pounds of innocent vegetables were ripped out of their comfortable bed of nourishing soil, only to be dismembered, cut up, ripped apart, boiled, fried and grilled by ravenous vegans. This senseless act of violence against innocent vegetables and fruits is being repeated in countries all over the world and it must be stopped. I suggest we start by indoctrination of our youth by placing ads on trays and on the walls of our school to teach our children that this senseless slaughter must be stopped immediately.

and another post alpha-lemming says:

In addition, $50-75/pr for your underware is a small price to pay to insure they’re ONLY manufactured from free-range, humanely treated cotton plants.

WATER LIABILITY WARNING from 1st July 2012.

Did you know that all commercial property owners will inherit water account liabilities from their tenants when they become the property owners liability compliments of the State Government changing the Water Act.1989. This has serious risk implications for landlords when tenants go into bankruptcy, especially the very large water consumers. Wonder if the insurance companies will cover this risk?

Embargo For Immediate Release
Number 2012-30 Date 2 October 2012
PART STATEMENT...
Statement by Glenn Stevens, Governor: Monetary Policy Decision
At its meeting today, the Board decided to lower the cash rate by 25 basis points to 3.25 per cent, effective 3 October 2012.

The outlook for growth in the world economy has softened over recent months, with estimates for global GDP being edged down, and risks to the outlook still seen to be on the downside. Economic activity in Europe is contracting, while growth in the United States remains modest. Growth in China has also slowed, and uncertainty about near-term prospects is greater than it was some months ago. Around Asia generally, growth is being dampened by the more moderate Chinese expansion and the weakness in Europe.

Key commodity prices for Australia remain significantly lower than earlier in the year, even though some have regained some ground in recent weeks. The terms of trade have declined by over 10 per cent since the peak last year and will probably decline further, though they are likely to remain historically high.

Financial markets have responded positively over the past few months to signs of progress in addressing Europe's financial problems, but expectations for further progress remain high. Low appetite for risk has seen long-term interest rates faced by highly rated sovereigns, including Australia, remain at exceptionally low levels. Nonetheless, capital markets remain open to corporations and well-rated banks, and Australian banks have had no difficulty accessing funding, including on an unsecured basis. Share markets have generally risen over recent months.

In Australia, most indicators available for this meeting suggest that growth has been running close to trend, led by very large increases in capital spending in the resources sector. Consumption growth was quite firm in the first half of 2012, though some of that strength was temporary. Investment in dwellings has remained subdued, though there have been some tentative signs of improvement, while non-residential building investment has also remained weak. Looking ahead, the peak in resource investment is likely to occur next year, and may be at a lower level than earlier expected. As this peak approaches it will be important that the forecast strengthening in some other components of demand starts to occur.

At today's meeting, the Board judged that, on the back of international developments, the growth outlook for next year looked a little weaker, while inflation was expected to be consistent with the target. The Board therefore decided that it was appropriate for the stance of monetary policy to be a little more accommodative.
