Who gets the FSL funds in the end?

In a submission to the fire services levy Yarra Ranges Council CEO Glenn Patterson said councils had concerns about collecting the levy on top of council rates, which would “introduce complexities, inconsistencies and place onerous administration costs on councils”.

Comment:  As most of you know I have been objecting to the way in which the CFA was funded.  It was funded by those who insured their properties and assets.

It is now based on a base fee plus a % of the property value.  This means that every property owner pays towards the CFA.

The only group that appear to be objecting are the councils.  Sure it means that they have to collect the funds from rate payers BUT they also get their local CFA units funded.  So logically, we are paying for our own CFA in the Shire.  Makes sense to me that each Shire collect as they end up getting most of the money they collect in some form or other.

How can a small tweeking of the rates department computer program increase administration costs? Maybe that explains why the Councillors are so against creating more housing for fear of increasing admin costs collecting all those extra rates would cause.

May I suggest admin costs could be saved by getting rid of parking and Compliance Officers? But I'm sure the tax department admin costs dont increase in proportion to the ever increasing taxes.

I'd like to ask..does the State Govt pay rates and the levy for the 55% of the Shire it owns in Crown land, the ever increasing open space grabs and hundreds Or thousands of public housing lots they own in the shire and if not why do private ratepayers need to subsidise welfare tenants with services paid for by private ratepayers money?.

And why do GWZ landowners need to pay the Parks charge on their water rates when we are required to provide grassy paddock views for the Socialistic Greens/ALP and Graveyard Liberals in the Rupert Hamer Government.

I believe its time that Hamers' GWZ policies were buried with him and Ted Bailliue show more honesty and respect for the living landholders than even Jeff Kennett did by doing nothing during his term.
