State Government considering $50 bin tax to make Victoria a green mecca

THE Government has backed down from plans to charge Victorians an extra $50 rubbish tax to make the state greener.
Households were to face a radical $50 garbage tax under plans to make Victoria a green mecca.

The hi-tech centres would sift green waste from hard rubbish and create renewable energy and compost on a grand scale.

The idea for the garbage tax is part of the $10 million Victorian Advanced Resource Initiative, which aims to better deal with food and garden waste.

Mr Jennings said the research would enable the Government and local governments to make informed decisions about introducing new waste management technology.
