MEDIA RELEASE re Coldstream Survey

Wednesday 18 May 2011
MR 57-2011

COLDSTREAM SURVEY

Coldstream residents have had their say on their township thanks to a survey from ward councillor Jeanette McRae.

Cr McRae said she decided to survey residents to help her and the council understand their thoughts and aspirations.

“I am always keen to know the views of my residents,” Cr McRae said.

Surveys were sent to households and businesses in Coldstream with 33 percent returned.

Cr McRae said the key messages she received were that people valued their rural setting, their location and sense of community. She said a majority of respondents supported C97 planning scheme amendment to control subdivision within the existing estate with a majority also supporting the expansion of Coldstream.

Cr McRae said, however, a recent announcement by the Minister for Planning, Matthew Guy had indicated that the Government’s priority in reviewing the Urban Growth Boundary was still on the established growth corridors, which doesn’t include the Yarra Ranges.

“Thank you to all those who contributed, the Council now has a clear picture of the thoughts of these Coldstream residents and businesses,” she said.

Cr McRae said the survey would help inform discussions into the future.

Coldstream survey results are available for viewing on the council’s website.
