Columnists Fire services levy win for farmers - Weekly Times Now

Columnists Fire services levy win for farmers - Weekly Times Now:

"When the State Government first announced changes last year, estimated rates showed farmers would pay around $200, plus 52c/$1000 of capital improved value of farms. That hefty rate meant that as a sector, farms were carrying much of the FSPL burden.

VFF president Peter Tuohey said his group "did a lot of work behind the scenes".

He got an audience with Premier Denis Napthine on the issue earlier this month and whatever happened at that meeting, the rate announced last week was 40 per cent lower - 31c/$1000 of CIV on farms - than what they first estimated."

In my opinion there is no great cost involved in collecting the Levy as some people are suggesting in their statements trying to big note themselves, but they have raised a more important aspect in that I can see why the State Revenue Office could not collect the money if the Councils think it is so difficult. Moreover I have also being suggesting thatall councils could save heaps in multiple administration costs by either forming one collection agency or asking the SRO to collect the rates for them instead.

This is something the CEO's should be suggesting instead of trying to grow their empires by justifying having new multi $million office buildings at a great cost to the ratepayers who are being demanded to pay more and more every year.

Its a no brainer imo, but all is silent on this simple cost saving measure.
