Has Madden Gone Mad?

The following is taken from the Maroondah Leader by Melinda Marshall, you can read the full story here.

State scheme angers council

RESIDENTS will be sidelined from decisions on major school and social housing developments under a State Government scheme to fast-track approvals.

Under new planning changes, the state Planning Minister takes control over some social housing and independent school building projects with no public notification or review.

Council permits will no longer be required for such projects, effectively excluding local governments from the planning process.

State Government spokesman Chris Owner said the temporary move was designed to fast-track $3 billion worth of building projects financed by the Federal Government’s stimulus package.

He said a streamlined planning process would help “bolster the local economy, build important community infrastructure and create local jobs now”.

Do you agree with this policy or is it a touch of the "C" word, communism?
