NEARLY 60 Victorians a week face losing their homes as they struggle to pay the mortgage during tough economic times and rising unemployment.

Latest Supreme Court statistics obtained by The Sunday Age show there were 3068 applications to repossess properties in the year to June 30 — a 9.6 per cent increase on the previous year's 2797.

State scheme angers council

Maroondah Council fears new planning paws will shut residents out of future school redevelopment plans
RESIDENTS will be sidelined from decisions on major school and social housing developments under a State Government scheme to fast-track approvals.

Under new planning changes, the state Planning Minister takes control over some social housing and independent school building projects with no public notification or review.
