Coldstream CFA REPORT

Hi Mario,

Last night I attended a CFA Community Meeting at Coldstream Primary School. This was the third meeting held in our area. There were a number of interested people in attendance as well as members of the Coldstream Fire Brigade.

The meeting was designed to give residents of our town some idea on what to expect should we have the misfortune of having another Black Saturday inflicted upon us.

Items discussed included “Understanding your Environment” – how to determine the level of risk to you and your family.
“Preparing your Property”. Making your house fire ready.
How to decide whether you should leave early or stay and defend your property.

How to interpret the new Fire Danger Ratings.

Unfortunately, the number of residents who attended indicated a total lack of appreciation of the dangers that the town faces, with fewer than 5% of the community bothering to attend to find out how to save their life and/or property.

Compare this with the number of people who seem to be more interested in whether an extra few houses can or can’t be built in our estate.

For those people who would still like to find out more about the program, you can visit the web CFA site at:
