Municipal Wide Study

Comment:

The following is a brief description of how the Shire will proceed in relation to the COLDSTREAM 20202 proposal.  The survey by Jeanette McRae is a different issue and we hope that Jeanette conducts this soon.

Hello Mario,

In relation to the further strategic work that Council is planning on undertaking, this includes developing a municipal wide study that will examine the role and function of the towns and activity centres across Yarra Ranges and the relationships between the various locations.

The study will provide Council with a view of how the various towns & activity centres function and relate to each other and can support the broader community into the future.

At this stage Council is preparing background scoping work and a consultancy project brief to undertake the study which we anticipate will commence in the next month and be finalised towards the end of the year.

Regards

Damian Closs
Manager Strategic Planning

Comment:  I am sure that everyone will have a chance to have an input.

Well, well well. I am amazed.Council is carrying out a "Municipal Wide Study" to "examine the role and function of the towns and activity centres across Yarra Ranges and the relationships between the various locations" and "The study will provide Council with a view of how the various towns & activity centres function and relate to each other and can support the broader community into the future" as stated by Damien Gloss. Excuse me for asking but shouldn't they know this already? Should this not have been critical knowledge before creating the Housing Strategy. Doesn't this relate to knowledge that benefits where and what areas grows and expands and what function a particular area provides for the say smaller townships for example.
I just think that this is a total back the front way of doing things. Create an Strategy and then do the research. No wonder there are not many who respect or admire our Council. Please Council, when are you going to get it right?

I am interested to know if this study will include resident imput in the form of relavent surveys on the topic to gather residents ideas.
I think the area has a huge equine population and interest that could be tapped into with council support to develope national standard facilities the like of Werribee Park National Equestrian Center in Werribee victoria. I think that to look into the various towns functions and activity centers should almost require a whole section on equestrian activities in the region and how horse breeding, racing, showing, eventing, showjumping, and Dressage competitions etc. can if promoted bring in revenue into the future.

Keep the ideas coming. This is just the START and as I have said may times, "nothing has been decided" and every input is important.

We await the new survey ASAP.
