My Views:

Tourism: under
pins much of the region economy we have to do more to support this key area of
economic development.

Planning: planning
should consider economic benefits, social and environmental factors to achieve
balanced outcomes.

Balance
the Budget:
we should live within our means and not impose rate increases to fund
activities or programs we cannot afford.

Working
Together:
we are a diverse and exciting region with many facets. Our industries provide
employment and contribute to our economy. All must be given support in the
context of working together to allow us to build a sustainable and secure
future.

Poker
Machines:
we should not introduce any more Poker Machines. We are a food and wine region,
one that has strong agribusiness and natural beauty all part of the attraction
to the many tourists who visit us.

Local
Issues:
the Council should focus on local issues within their control.

VERY PROMISING CANDIDATE - SHOULD MAKE A GREAT MAYOR - AFTER LOCAL GOVERNMENT WHO KNOWS - THE SENATE
Michael Matthews seems to have the runs on the board professionally, seems to know what hes talking about, confident and professional and I do wish him well in an election contest made more difficult with stalwart Di Moore coming back into the fray. Hope to meet Michael Matthews this week to frame a final opinion.
Jim Child is another guy I'm impressed with and contesting O'Shannessey Ward. He answered some of my questions on the Superannuation debacle and seemed to be right on top of the serious issues confronting ratepayers.
Good to see some fresh blood standing up to be counted in local government during the very difficult economic periods ahead.
I have not met any other the current serving Councillors but I do know they are all committed in what they believe in, even if we dont always agree. Its a difficult and perhaps exausting persuit to attempt to represent the conflicting needs of all ratepayers and sometimes a good earned rest should be contemplated by serving Cr after a term to help re-invigorate the soul and to let fresh new candidates have a go.
