(Green) Wedge politics

The State Government will be opening Melbourne's green wedges to housing as it expands the urban boundary.


Supporters are concerned the wedges' days are numbered, and their fears are directed at those they once championed as the protectors of the city's lungs - the State Government.

The concern centres on the Brumby Government's December announcement that it planned to massively expand Melbourne's urban growth boundary to cope with the city's booming population - the Bureau of Statistics estimates the city's population is growing by almost 1500 people a week.

....the green wedges and the city's planning blueprint are in a lot of trouble and the Government has all but abandoned its strategy for greater residential density outlined in Melbourne 2030.

Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu says the Government's planning strategy is a mess.

But I hope that we can get a few more houses built in the Yarra Ranges, sooner rather than later! A Shire that has 97% non-residential areas. :)
