How much are our rates up?

YARRA VALLEY residents face a 6.9 per cent rate hike, a stark jump from last year’s 4.25 per cent rise. (LINK)

An average rate increase of 6.9% will be required to deliver on our projects and services in 2009–2010. This equates to an increase of $1.71 a week for the average property. The increase is critical in helping deliver the shire’s expanded capital works program.

But I think it is more like 8.2% not 6.9%. for most of us. Look at the table below:



The average is skewed because one item has a rise of zero!
That item is CURTURAL & RECREATIONAL LAND.
ALL OTHER PROPERTIES HAVE A RISE OF 8.1%
THAT IS MOST OF US!
True the average may be 6.9% (8.1*5/6) but the mean is 8.2%. (8.1,8.1,8.1,8.1,8.1,0.0)
