Farmers slam 122 percent fire tax slug


“This massive increase in the Fire Service Levy will make insurance even less affordable resulting in fewer people insuring, narrowing the collection pool and requiring further tax increases. Greater levels of non and underinsurance will also result in additional hardship on those affected by fires.”

“Comments attributed to a spokesman for Victorian Treasurer John Lenders today have completely missed the point. Objections to increases in the Fire Service Levy are not about opposing funding to the CFA, they are about opposing an inequitable tax which is directed exclusively and unfairly at insurance policy holders.”

“It is time for the Victorian Government to face the facts on the Fire Service Levy; this is a ridiculous tax and an unfair way of funding fire services,” Mr Broad concluded.
