ReZone Green Wedge

Councillors last week agreed to seek authorisation from Planning Minister Matthew Guy to rezone 115 and 121 Old Emerald Rd, from Green Wedge to Public Park and Recreation, allowing the massive soccer centre to be built on the site.

All councillors voted for the proposal except Cr Jeanette McRae who voiced concerns about the loss of farming land.

But Cr Warren said the only appropriate land the council could find was in a green wedge zone, meaning 8ha of farming land would be lost.

But he said the community benefits would be worth it.

The council received more than 208 letters and a petition with 371 signatures in support of the project and 20 letters opposing it, with concerns about traffic and lack of car parking.

Once the council has received authorisation from the minster, it will put out the planning scheme amendment for public comment.

Comment:  Let's hope Coldstream can move the green wedge as well.
