Politicians must slash the waste

The Yarra Ranges Shire has released for public comment a massive document of draft provisions for local laws. But don't worry about the waste, look at the fiddling. Propositions seriously put forward include bans on owning a goose or a pea fowl, growing nature strip grass higher than 20cm, feeding birds, playing games on council land, throwing stones into lakes, filming in a public street, smoking on council land and riding a skateboard within a municipal building.

Terrific, isn't it? Now all they have to do is hire an army of goose-checking, grass-measuring, bird-tracking council officers who can snatch a speeding skateboard and smell smoke at 50m.
Then, the rest of us have to give the council the money to pay them. At all levels, that's how it works.
