Fiona McAllister (quote from her FaceBook Page)

After a tense election weekend I am pleased and honoured to now be your councillor for the next 4 years. Thank you to everyone who supported me and of course voted for me! I'm already thinking about the key issues and priorities and very aware of the need to get them on the agenda straight away! The key issues I ran on - consultation, planning reform, spending efficiencies and of course commonsense ... are all front of mind and action as the 'induction' process commences... I will keep you all posted

Fiona McAllister certainly seems to head screwed on pproperly and should be able to represent the ratepayers very well.

Lets ask why does council need to spend $17 Million to house staff who are already being housed in their current location? Why cant they lease some of their office space needs without having to put we ratepayersw under another mortgage when they can just pay rent equating to approx cost of the bond rate? Why do we need to build another empire council building to compete with other councils?

Why cant some of the councils merge their planning or other service operations with other councils nearby by sharing facilities to save money? Do what so many other businesses do to economise and reduce costs so ratepayers dont have to put in more capital? Why not just sell the current council offices for development for other purposes and more operations to cheaper leased premises? Why do all services need to be in the one location in the most expensive Lilydale location when modern technologies allow various options.
Why not build some office services in Yarra Glen or Coldstream and decentalise operations to be more in keeping with our rural emphasis?
Lots more questions should be raised too....
